“Are you seriously still mad?” Mykel stood on my porch with some roses and a nicely wrapped basket. It had a lot of goodies to choose from. There were gift cards to some of my favorite restaurants, Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush perfume, Bath and Body Works lotions, a candle, and a mystery box.

“You damn right I am. You embarrassed me in front of hundreds of people. At somebody’s funeral for crying out loud.” I stood in the doorframe torn because I loved this man, but lately, he hadn’t been giving what he was supposed to give.

“Can you please let me in? I haven’t been able to focus because I’ve been thinking about you. I don’t like when you’re not talking to me. I feel so empty. I miss you.” Mykel laid it on thick.

“I bet you do. I’ve been fighting for your time and now all of a sudden you’re not too busy for me? How ironic.” I still wasn’t budging.

“I told you once this proposal is submitted we can start enjoying our date nights again. It’s been submitted and now we have to wait on approval. Which can take anywhere between a few weeks to a few years. I’m all yours, baby.” Mykel held his arms out giving me access to him.

“I’m still a little pissed but I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt. My love for you won’t let me give up. You’ve been under a lot of stress lately, so I get it.” I grabbed the roses and moved to the side to let him in.

“Me being under stress didn’t have anything to do with it though.” Mykel placed the gift basket on the table.

“What do you mean?”

“I need you to stay away from him.”

“Stay away from who?” I kind of knew who he was talking about, but I wanted to make sure first. I put the flowers on the table to disconnect eye contact.

“Your ex, that’s who. I saw the way he was looking at you.” Mykel looked for a reaction from me.

“Listen, I don’t know what you want me to do. Iceland is a grown ass man who has to deal with whatever he has going on. I don’t even remember him.” My dreams didn’t count.

“You don’t have to remember the connection to feel the chemistry.” Mykel had a valid point.

The time I spent with Iceland at the Blue Palace and The Healing Collective was interesting to say the least. Although I didn’t remember a lot from our past encounters and experiences, we did vibe to my new wave. We smoked, we laughed, and we tried our best to come up with a plan so I didn’t get robbed again. It was Iceland’s way of keeping his mind off his mother and I was OK with that. There was something about Iceland that I couldn’t quite put my finger on yet.

“Once we are finished with Ms. Pearl’s requests, Iceland is going to go back to his life and I’ll be here.” I’m sure my words didn’t change how Mykel felt.
